Some Book Reviews

RECENT BOOK REVIEWS:

Here are some of my recent book reviews from Goodreads. I have not been reviewing all the books I've read this year but I am planning on reviewing more going into the new year. I will share a list of all the books I've read this year soon and post it to the blog and on my Instagram, @intoxicatinghistory.

*If you would like to check any of these books out click on the photo and it will take you the Goodreads page*

 Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borison

Seriously one of the cutest books I’ve read. It was the perfect amount of romance and Christmas without being too cheesy. I love Stella and Luka, they are such an adorable fictional couple. I still can’t believe it took them so long to realize it! It was such a sweet love story and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series! This is the perfect seasonal romance to read (or listen to) while snuggling up under a warm blanket with a cup of hot cocoa. 🎄

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

*SPOILERS*

So I wish I could do half stars, this book isn’t 3 stars but 3 1/2. It’s a good book and I would definitely tell others to read it. I just personally didn’t connect with the ending. The whole murder plot felt weird to me and although the more I think about it the more I can kind of see how it fits I still felt it wasn’t thought out well. The whole trial was a little dragged out and I wish the book would have taken a different turn. The ending was also not my favorite, it felt rushed. I wanted more for Kya’s character. I really was hoping the murderer was going to be revealed to be Tate or Pearl. I thought Pearl made the perfect murderer since she had a good reason for wanting to kill the husband who humiliated her by being with the “marsh girl” and then wanting to frame Kya. I just didn’t think the Kya that we got to know in the book would had killed anyone. But Kya also was a survivor so maybe…(I go back and forth on if she was capable or not). All that being said I still really enjoyed most of the book and I loved the way marsh and the animals were described.

*I listened to this on audible and then bought the hard copy so I will be doing a reread soon and will update this review if I have some different or new thoughts.*

The Book of Yaak by Rick Bass

One of the most beautifully detailed books I’ve read. The way Bass uses imagery to describe the Yaak Valley is incredible. You can picture everything he describes. You can also sense his passion and the sense of urgency in wanting to protect the valley. Truly an amazing read. If you want to understand why wilderness is important please do read this book. It was definitely a 10/10.

To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn

Unsure. I love Eloise so I feel I can’t give it anything less than a 4 star review. However like others have expressed Mr. Crane was very selfish and did not deserve Eloise. I hope the Netflix series does her justice and finds her a new love interest or that at least Mr. Crane will be kinder and not so weird sometimes. I also hate that all of these books are so into the “virgin looses virginity” storyline. It’s in every single novel. Like I get it’s the era but the scene is always so awkward. I also hate the way Marina is portrayed in this novel, I hope she gets a better edit in the tv series as well. It sucks the way this author chose to describe depression and postpartum depression. As I write this I almost want to take another star away but I’ll leave it at four. I just don’t know if I want to keep reading the series. I get more disappointed with each book.

Let me know if you have read any of these and what your thought were!
